WelcHome International is proud to announce its support for the vital "Make Stamp Duty Payment Flexible" petition, launched by Andrews Property Group. This initiative aims to reform the current Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) payment system, allowing homebuyers to spread the cost over two to five years instead of the current 14-day deadline.

This proposed reform is a significant step towards alleviating the financial burden on homebuyers, particularly our valued first-time buyers. The current requirement to pay a substantial lump sum within 14 days of completion often creates significant affordability barriers. It forces buyers to save additional funds on top of deposits and legal fees, or to increase their mortgage borrowing, thereby reducing their purchasing power.

WelcHome International believes that flexible Stamp Duty payments offer a sustainable, long-term solution that benefits buyers, maintains government revenue, and fosters a more stable property market. This change could unlock significant buyer demand currently held back by cash flow constraints and improve housing market mobility. We are not alone in this belief; industry giants like Zoopla and Rightmove, along with property expert Phil Spencer, are also backing this crucial campaign.

For first-time buyers, who are already navigating the challenges of high property prices and securing deposits, the ability to pay Stamp Duty in manageable instalments would be a considerable relief. It would free up capital that could be used for essential moving costs or to furnish their new homes, making the dream of homeownership more accessible and less daunting.

We urge all our clients, partners, and anyone who believes in a more accessible and fluid property market to support this petition. Your signature can make a real difference in pushing this reform forward and easing the path to homeownership for many.
